# Financial Literacy at Scale: Our PEARLS Partners with CareerSource Broward

This summer, Our PEARLS, Inc. partnered with CareerSource Broward to bring financial literacy education to more than 1,200 students across Broward County through the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

For many of these students, SYEP is their first real paycheck — and their first real chance to start building lifelong financial habits. Our PEARLS was proud to meet that moment with practical, hands-on programming designed to make financial literacy feel accessible rather than abstract.

## What Students Learned

Across a series of engaging sessions, students worked through the fundamentals that too often go untaught until it's too late to matter:

- **Budgeting** — how to plan for a paycheck before it's gone

- **Saving** — building the habit early, even in small amounts

- **Credit** — what it is, how it's built, and why it follows you

- **Banking basics** — understanding accounts, fees, and how to use a bank as a tool rather than a mystery

- **Long-term financial decision-making** — connecting today's choices to tomorrow's options

The goal wasn't to lecture students about money. It was to hand them tools they could use immediately — with their first SYEP paycheck, and with every paycheck after it.

## Why This Work Matters

Financial literacy is one of the clearest levers for long-term economic mobility, and it's also one of the most consistently under-taught skills in traditional education. Programs like SYEP create a rare window: young people are earning real money, often for the first time, while they're still open to building good habits before bad ones set in.

That's exactly the moment Our PEARLS exists to meet. This partnership reflects one of our strongest commitments — helping young people connect knowledge with action, so they can move into adulthood with more confidence, more readiness, and more opportunity than they started with.

## A Partnership Built to Grow

Working alongside CareerSource Broward gave Our PEARLS the chance to bring this programming to scale — reaching over 1,200 students in a single summer, across multiple sites throughout Broward County. It's the kind of partnership that reflects what Our PEARLS is becoming: an organization that doesn't just run individual programs, but builds lasting relationships with institutions who share our commitment to preparing the next generation.

We're grateful to CareerSource Broward for making this reach possible, and to every student who showed up ready to learn.
